When Hurricane Hermine landed last year, it pushed four to six inches of salt water throughout the home of Capt. John Valine (Delta). “The damage was devastating,” he said. “Every possession we owned that was within five inches of the floor was now damaged by salt water.”
Flood insurance went a long way, but there were multiple costs that it didn’t cover—things like immediate hotel and food expenses, movers, storage, and temporary housing. That’s where Pilots for Pilots stepped in to help, providing a grant to help Valine and his family get back on their feet. “To say that we were overwhelmed emotionally, mentally, and financially is an understatement,” said Valine. “We were very grateful for the assistance we received from ALPA and the P4P program during a most difficult time in our lives.”
